Teorie per la metropoli

The essay reconstructs the sociological thought on the modern metropolis, with particular attention to three main themes: 1. the morphology of the city and its change during the twentieth century, through the " concentric zone model" (E.Burgess, 1925), the " sector model" (H. Hoyt, 1939), the "multiple nuclei model" (C.D. Harris and E.L. Ullman, 1945), the '' urban factorial ecology "(R.A. Murdie, 1969) and urban sprawl at the end of twentieth century. The essay also reconstructs the path of the architectural and urban planning, from the "garden city" (E. Howard), to the "industrial city" (T. Garnier), to the contribution of the Modern Movement through the perspectives of Le Corbusier, L. Mies van der Rohe, W. Gropius, the Organic Architecture (L. Mumford, H. Wright, C. Stein, F.L. Wright) and the New Urbanism in the last decade of twentieth century. 2. The urbanism as a way of life, through the theories of G. Simmel, R. Park, E. Burgess, R. McKenzie, L. Wirth, W. Benjamin, H. Gans, C.S. Fischer, E. Goffman, L. Lofland, H. Lefebvre, M. Castells, D. Harvey, E. Soja, Z. Bauman. Particular attention is dedicated to new forms of urbanism induced by affirmation of the "urban sprawl" at the end of twentieth century and by the full affirmation of the post-modern city in the theories of contemporary urban sociologists. 3. The new urban symbolism who emerges in the "urban sprawl", with reference to the analysis of A. Strauss . and K. Lynch.

Il saggio ricostruisce il pensiero sociologico in merito alla metropoli moderna, con attenzione in particolare a tre percorsi di approfondimento: 1. la morfologia della città e il suo mutamento nel corso del Novecento, attraverso il "modello a cerchi concentrici " di E. Burgess (1925), il "modello per settori" di H. Hoyt (1939), il"modello a nuclei multipli" di C.D. Harris e E.L. Ullman (1945), l'"ecologia fattoriale urbana" di R.A. Murdie (1969) e la "città diffusa"(dagli anni '80 del '900). Si ricostruisce inoltre il percorso della progettazione architettonica e urbanistica, dalla "città giardino" di E. Howard, alla "città industriale" di T. Garnier, al contributo del Movimento moderno attraverso le prospettive di Le Corbusier, L. Mies van der Rohe, W. Gropius, l'Architettura organica di matrice nord-americana (L. Mumford, H. Wright , C. Stein, F.L. Wright) e il New Urbanism negli anni '90 del '900. 2. L'urbanesimo come modo di vita, attraverso la riflessione di G. Simmel, R. Park, E. Burgess, R. McKenzie, L. Wirth, W. Benjamin, H. Gans, C.S. Fischer, E. Goffman, L. Lofland, H. Lefebvre, M. Castells, D. Harvey, E. Soja, Z. Bauman, con particolare riferimento alle nuove forme di urbanesimo indotte dall'affermazione della "città diffusa" alla fine del Novecento e il pieno affermarsi della città post-moderna, nella riflessione dei sociologi urbani contemporanei. 3. La simbologia urbana che si afferma nella "città diffusa", con riferimenti alla riflessione di A. Strauss e K. Lynch.
